These days crystal healing has become more mainstream and people from all walks of life have heard of their subtle healing powers. Science has, perhaps quietly, made use of crystals and their incredible ability to hold and transmit energy since its inception. Crystals are used every day in sonar, ultrasound, radios, transistors, guitar amps, computer chips, the list goes on and on. And on.
When using crystals for therapeutic or spiritual purposes it becomes much more important to cleanse, charge, and even activate them. It simply means that because of their super-power to move and hold energy, you need to clean out the old or negative energy (cleanse), fill it up with clean new energy (charge), and tell it what you need or want it to do (activate). We do these things to maximize each type of crystals’ potential and move beyond ambient benefits or vibes. With that in mind, here are 8 simple ways to C&C one of Mother Earth’s most precious gifts!
1: Sunlight- Sunlight packs such an energetic punch it can cleanse and charge your crystals in as little as a few minutes! Just note that some colored stones are sensitive to direct sunlight and can leach their color over time.
2: Moonlight- While not as powerful in terms of intensity, our gentle Mother/ Sister Moon can cleanse and charge your crystals all the same. In this method, you’ll want to choose which Moon phase to imbue into your stones (full Moon, new Moon), and it will be an all-nighter kind of thing.
3: Underground- Giving your crystals back to the Great Mother is yet another way to C&C them. You’ll wrap your stones in a cloth (preferably natural fibers) and bury them an inch or two down for a night or few. If you don’t have access to the outdoors, a potted house plant may be used. Just don’t forget to ask the plant permission. It is a living being doing you a solid, so just ask! You don’t have to be able to hear or understand a response- it’s a gratitude and respect thing.
4: Reiki- I love using Reiki for (everything) C&C-ing my stones!If you’ve had Reiki II, you can use the SHK symbol to cleanse and the CKR to charge. If you’ve had Reiki I, you can simply direct the flow of energy to first cleanse then charge your crystals.
5: Salt- Place crystals on top of or in a bowl of sea salt for about 24 hours. The salt will draw out the toxic/ old energy, just like a salt bath for your body! Make sure to discard the salt afterwards. Some feel the need to charge their stones after this, some don’t. Just do what feels right to you.
6: Running water- To cleanse just hold your water safe crystals in or under flowing water and visualize the old energy flowing out and away with the water and charge by visualizing fresh new energy flowing in. If you aren’t near a natural body of water, a sink faucet will do in a pinch!
7: Smoke, Smudging, and Fire- Sacred smoke, smudging with herbs and resins, and good ol’ fire has been used since ancient times to cleanse and charge people, places, and things. Pass (use tongs for fire) your crystals back and forth through the flame of a candle, lighter, or even your stove top, for a few seconds with the intention of cleansing and charging. The same goes for incense, resin, or smudge smoke. Some good substances for C&C-ing your stones include palo santo, sage, frankincense, and dragons blood.
8: Larger Crystals- Some crystals are so well suited for cleansing and charging they can be used themselves to C&C their little brother/ sister stones! You’ll want a larger piece such as a geode, slab, or cluster to put your smaller crystals on, then walk away and let it do its thing for a few hours to a day. Selenite, Amethyst, Citrine, and Carnelian are some crystals that are great for this purpose. Don’t forget to cleanse and charge your C&C-ing crystals, too!
These are but a few easy ways to supercharge your beloved crystal friends. You may find that one method feels ‘right’ for one type of stone but not another. Play around with them, see if you can tell a difference! Just have fun and an open mind and heart and you won’t go wrong! Namaste-April
